body { font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6em; } .aplus { min-width: inherit; } This opening fold-out contains a general map of New York to help you visualize the 8 large districts discussed in this guide, and 4 pages of valuable information, handy tips and useful addresses. Discover New York through 8 districts and 8 mapsDowntownLower East Side/ East VillageSoHo/ Greenwich Village/ Chelsea/ TriBeCaMidtown EastTimes Square/ Theater DistrictUpper East SideUpper West SideCentral Park/ HarlemFor each district there is a double-page of addresses (restaurants — listed in ascending order of price — cafés, bars, tearooms, music venues and stores) followed by a fold-out map for the relevant area with the essential places to see (indicated on the map by a star *). These places are by no means all that New York has to offer but to us they are unmissable. The grid-referencing system (A B2) makes it easy for you to pinpoint addresses quickly on the map.Transportation and hotels in New YorkThe last fold-out consists of a transportation map and 4 pages of practical information that include a selection of hotels. A thematic index lists all the sites and addresses featured in this guide. The best NYC guide ever!

5.0 out of 5.0 by Kindle Customer on June 9, 2018
I go to NYC once or twice a year and never leave without this guide. It is truly the best neighborhood guide to the city. It is small and will fit in your purse or a fanny back. The maps pull out and are large enough to see, but not so large to identify you as a tourist. I have purchased this book several times to get updated guides and will continue to by any future updates. This is truly the very best there is.
Our Favorite Guide/Map!

When we are planning a trip, this is the first purchase we make. My husband and I research and notate the places we want to see and eat in our MapGuide. Often, this is the only book and/or map that we carry when we are out exploring. Each day we explore a different part of the city, using the maps to plan our route for the day. We love how it is compact and it highlights the main attractions in each area. We have already purchased several of these. We love looking at our bookshelf and seeing these as reminders of the cities that we have traveled to.
The typeface is easy to read quickly

5.0 out of 5.0 by Bluebird on September 19, 2016
I am a fan of this guidebook series' lightweight, fold-out format and well-organized neighborhood suggestions. The typeface is easy to read quickly, especially on the street maps. No need to risk taking out a smartphone! Tip: Before you venture out, mark the place in which you are staying and the places you want to see with a post-it note or stick-on arrow.
Size is nice but info lacks a great deal

2.0 out of 5.0 by Liberty Corners Road on February 12, 2012
For a first time visitor this guide could be useful but please don't rely on it alone. The maps are decent but they leave out much of the city, not even covering all of Manhattan -- much less the outer boros. The section on Greenwich Village is appalling - with repeated recommendations for Marc Jacobs stores and other corporate entities that have destroyed the historic and cultural values of that neighborhood. I have a feeling that the many of the entries in this guide were paid for rather than selected for their innate interest/value - but I could be wrong.
REALLY handy!

I posted that the DC guide was great? This one even more so. I did mark places we wanted to go with posits, so I wouldn't have to search each time I opened a page. This was perfect for first-time tourists. And it will go with us if we get to go back. Small enough to fit in a purse, or even my husband's back pocket, so when we needed it, we didn't have a huge map to nfold. We just stepped aside to use it and didn't have to look like total rubes.
I never travel without Knopf

5.0 out of 5.0 by Frequent Web Shopper on November 13, 2012
The first thing I do when travelling to a major city is to see if there is a Knopf MapGuide. These books have helped me find interesting attractions and great places to eat - this one for New York was no exception. The fold-out maps are wonderful; the size of the book fits neatly in my purse without adding bulk. The thumbnail description of the attraction is just enough detail to help with deciding if it's worth your while, plus the addition of the cross-streets help pinpoint exactly where to go. I truly enjoy finding the perfect restaurant - this guide led us to Paulino's on Bowery - the pizza and ambiance were both wonderful!
folded profile coupled with the easy to read map is great

I buy Knopf Mapguides where ever I go, provided they are available. The small, folded profile coupled with the easy to read map is great.
Really like this series of map books

4.0 out of 5.0 by Barbara S. Butko on February 25, 2015
Really like this series of map books. Small and light enough to stick in your bag or purse and opens easily to sections of the city you are intersted in. Useful trasnsit maps and such in the back and individual maps are broken up into small enough sections of the city so the details on each map are big enough to read easily.
