My original gymboss timers were great. Over the years

2.0 out of 5.0 by DAVID on March 20, 2018
I teach exercise classes and I have for 10 years. My original gymboss timers were great. Over the years, they keep getting worse and so I have also tried many other brands. Love the abilities of the Gymboss timer. The last 3 have been terrible and defective.I am too busy of a person to take the time to return and I missed the deadlines. This particular one - the beeper does NOT work. If set in a round series. The prior two ones purchase in last couple years had very low beep volume. Years ago the gymboss timers were absolutely the best. I bet I have bought at least 10. I thought i would give them one more shot with this one. It failed. I should have sent it back as i knew it was defective during the first two weeks. They need to bring back their original quality.
Needs more customization ability

Just like the old Gym Boss timers, this one is mediocre. It works well; the alarm has enough various settings that you can be sure to find one that suits your need. The numbers are easy to read, setting up the timer and using the stopwatch function is good enough. My only problem with it is its lack of customizability in regards to interval times. You can set two, and only two, different interval times. For example, if I want to do 2 plyometric exercises for 30 seconds each, followed by a 45 second rest, I can't use this timer. I could do 1 exercise for 30 seconds and then a 45 second rest period. This is an inconvenience when I attempt to do some interval training, like the heavy rope. When I use my rope, I'll do 1 minute each of 5 different exercises, and then rest for 3 minutes. I would love the timer to do this: 1 minute, beep, 1 minute, beep, 1 minute, beep, 1 minute, beep, 1 minute, beep, 3 minutes, beep. But I can't do that. Instead I have to set it for infinite 1 minute intervals, then when it comes time to rest, I have to count the three minutes. The point is, each "round" of HIIT training can only have 2 different times, and I wish this product could accommodate more variability than that.
Good For The Galloway Training Method

I run with a group of friends along Santa Monica beach, training for marathons. Using the Jeff Galloway method we run for four minutes, walk for one minute and repeat those intervals until the finish. In interval mode, the Gymboss beeps on the four minutes and again on the one minute, telling us when to run and when to walk. It is simple to program and the beep is nice and loud so we don't miss a walk break. I had a chance to run with Jeff Galloway a couple of months ago, and he was using a Gymboss to track his intervals. So, I decided to get one, and I like it.
Ideal for runners using the run-walk training method.

Exactly what I wanted: I'm able to count down the minutes of my uniform run segments. There's an option for a vibrating alarm without sound--what I use--and it also allows for a second alarm, which I don't use (I count thirty paces and consider it close enough to a thirty-second walk break).
It's been changed for the worse.

I have an older version of the Gymboss Interval Timer as well, and I still love this product, but I think the 'upgrades' done to this one was really a downgrade in stead. On my older timer I'm allowed to change each singular number by it self, so if I wanted to change time from 90 minutes to only thirty seconds I'd first change only the nine to a zero and the zero on the first second bar to three and that was it. Saved me some time. On this new one I have to hold the reset-button while counting down the whole number from ninety minutes to thirty seconds and it takes a whole lot more time to reset. Other than that I'd still recommend this product, and I'd by it again.
Great for the Galloway Run/Walk Method

I am a Walk/Runner, and someone told me about these helping with my cycles. I have even used it on a half marathon. The max is 99, and if doing a half or marathon, you will have to reset. I love it. Its lightweight, easy to set up and use, and the metallic makes it pretty to look at. I have had this over a year, and still works great. I am trying to catch up on my reviews.
Good tool. The clip is chincy.

I am using this for potty training my toddler and I use it in my work as a behavior analyst. Once you do it a few times it’s easy enough to set but kind of frustrating and hard to figure out right out of the package. Some of the ones we’ve used at work have already lost their clip. But they’re replacing a $60 Motivaider that did essentially the same thing so can’t really complain for the price.

I purchased this item and after a week or so, it stopped working. I contacted the seller who was very responsive. They offered to replace the item. The second timer arrived and the same thing happened--after a week or so, it stopped working. I contacted the seller again and explained this timer had stopped working too. I was told I could return it AT MY COST. Since two timers had been defective, I was surprised when I was told to return the item at my cost. I am using an alternate app now which works for my purposes, but am out of pocket for the $28 paid for timer.
