This study guide on Romans has some excellent aspects and some very poor aspects

3.0 out of 5.0 by Clapping Trees on July 20, 2014
This study guide on Romans has some excellent aspects and some very poor aspects; hence 3 stars. The excellent parts of the guide are the explanatory paragraphs at the end of each chapter called the Gospel Glimpses, Whole-Bible Connections, and Theological Soundings. These paragraphs explain clearly and briefly the important teachings in each portion of Scripture. The very poor parts of the study are the questions in each lesson. As the leader of the study group, I was very disappointed that most of the questions totally omitted the critically important doctrines and teachings in Romans. So if you choose this study guide on Romans, be prepared to write your own questions or heavily supplement the questions in the guide.
Great study, learned a lot

5.0 out of 5.0 by Tony Cook on April 26, 2019
I am just finishing up this study and I have learned SO much over the last 12 weeks. More than any other study had taught me. The question challenge me to really think and go deeper. I would recommend the ESV study bible to use with it if you’re newer to bible study and need some help with answers (or want to check them) as there are often corresponding discussions in the study bible that helped me along the way. The writing in this was very clear and I appreciated the solid theology. I learned a ton!
Well written and accessible to a broad audience.

This is the second study in this series I have led a group of men through. It is accessible to a broad audience / suitable for newer believers as well as those who have been around the block a few times. I especially like the “Gospel glimpses”, “Whole Bible Connections”, and “Theological Soundings” sections for each week . . . these sections give context for the content in the study that help you understand how this book and it’s themes fit into the broader scope of the Bible.
Excellent study!

Excellent for either small groups or individual studyOpen-ended questions plus thorough definitions of vocabulary/theological termsVery accessible for new believers, yet profitable for experienced ones.
Good foundational book study of Romans

A good simple study with some good insights! The foundation is here for those desiring to go deeper. If you are willing to jump off on your own fit each study, you will find this very rewarding. If you only use what is here, you may feel a bit lacking.

Really sound teaching. Enjoyed the definition of words at the end of each chapter. It helped while studying the Scripture.

I ordered this book and John Stott’s. I found Stott’s book more user friendly. I ended up returning this book for refund.
